Diocese of Joliet School Boards

Dear Board Members,

Welcome to the newsgroup for members of Joliet Diocesan school boards. This site is intended as a convenient means for sharing news that affects your schools.

The site is organized as a set of forums, each of which focuses on a particular topic:

• Announcements is for general news of upcoming events or pressing issues.
• Legislative Issues focuses on laws and policies affecting Catholic schools.
• Marketing Issues provides a forum for sharing marketing ideas and best practices.
• Finance Issues addresses budget-related topics.
• Strategic Plan presents ideas, news, and best practices for developing a strategic plan.
• Alumni Outreach provides room to discuss ways to communicate with your graduates.

This is just the initial list of topic areas. As we all continue to use the tool, it is likely that new areas of the site will be created.

Each of you have the ability to post to these areas. At the end of each day, you will receive a single email that presents the text of all the posts that were made during the day. This digest approach will hopefully cut down on the number of emails you receive while keeping you informed. Of course, if you'd prefer to receive an email with every post, I can edit your account to do that. Just let me know if you'd prefer to receive an email with every post.

This is a work in progress, and some adjustments may need to be made as we all use this tool. We hope, however, that it will improve our ability to share ideas and discuss important issues facing our schools.

Here are some important general guidelines:

• The information available here is provided with the intent of furthering the good work of all the school boards within the Diocese of Joliet.  This group is to be used to share best practices and pertinent information relating to the purpose and responsibilities of school boards and to further communication and collaboration.
• Topics and information should relate only to professional matters relating to school boards and education in general. Pastors, principals, teachers and students should not be discussed.
• Keep the information clear and specific so that others can decide if they wish to read the message as well as join a discussion on a topic.
• Please keep posts on topic and post unrelated questions in a separate post. Respect copyright laws when creating pages or in discussions.  If you are in doubt as to whether something is copyrighted, check with the author.
• Respect the privacy of participants.  Do not share private email addresses or contact information unless consent is given.
• Any information that could be sensitive should be approved by the principal before posting.  If you are in doubt as to whether or not to share a particular piece of information, check with the principal first.
